Bill Clinton speaks… Arab-Americans listen

“He told an Arab-American audience of 1,000 people that the U.S. is no longer just a black-white country, nor a country that is dominated by Christians and a powerful Jewish minority, given the growing numbers of Muslims, Hindus and other religious groups here.”

Banned Tiny Toons

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on May 31, 2009 by dimplemonkey

Now why would something like this be banned? I welcome the comments, although I hardly get any, and hope that many of you can understand that political correctness, being insensitive, or just being quiet about something is sometimes a double-edged sword.

Oh and by the way, Big Brother’s still watching you… even closer!

10 million license plate reads a day!

Things that catch on across the pond tend to make their way over to the US. Fish & Chips, The British Invasion, Teletubbies, Dancing with the Stars, CCTV etc. Sometimes these “advancements” are not always welcomed with open arms but it appears that we’re not responsible enough to take care of ourselves. What is currently happening is yet another fine example of your liberties eroding away. BBC Special correspondent, Richard Bilton, writes about a new network of cameras and computers which will automatically log license plate numbers and be fully operational within months.

It is being hailed, by their own, as “the finest intelligence-led policing tool”. It is capable of reading over 10 million license plates a day. Information is then fed into the system where law enforcement can then determine the where-abouts of certain criminals on the loose. Some precincts that have implemented this system have reported an increase in arrests of 40%. The sword of justice, however, is double-edged. Read the BBC article further down and you will know about John Catt who should be entitled to his own opinions and be allowed to protest the war in a peaceful manner yet was wrongfully”marked” by this technology.

Right now, the technology and data that checks these license plates is unregulated. But as long as you’re not doing anything wrong, then you shouldn’t have to worry, right?

There will be a televised version of this story on BBC 2 on Monday. Hopefully, it will be made available on YouTube shortly thereafter.

Why we don’t we talk anymore…

Posted in Observation, Perspective with tags , , , , on May 6, 2009 by dimplemonkey

In this age of communication, it’s so funny how we don’t talk anymore. People want us to get to the point. We don’t want to be burdened with fluff because it cuts into our schedule. Our lives have been condensed into 140 characters, :15 second ads, :30 min sitcoms, severely edited reality programming, and short email and chat sessions.

Yes, I feel like it’s one of those “get off my lawn” moments! I think I’m going to write a letter to the editor of my local newspaper – oh wait, do we still have those?

Google: “Your books are belong to us” on May 5

Posted in Uncategorized on April 22, 2009 by dimplemonkey

Authors have until 5 May to tell Google to get their money grubbing hands off their books, writes Jess Hill. After that, they can be scanned and uploaded to Google’s virtual library. Is this a case of copyright infringement or are they the Robin Hood of book lovers all over the planet?

As the article states, it’s a noble cause for Google to digitize all literature even when they were told not to, but their timing couldn’t have been more precise where we’re slowly seeing the declines of capitalism throughout the world. Tin foil hat anyone?

Guilty Until Proven Innocent v 4th Ammendment

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on April 21, 2009 by dimplemonkey

Persistence and knowledge of your rights as deemed by the US Constitution helped this guy remain cool, calm, and collected for almost half an hour as border agents threatened to get their way. Half way through the conversation, agents even insinuated that you are guilty until proven innocent. I don’t think I would have lasted as long.

Peace at any cost, right?
