“Well, the “Hope and Change” halloween did not go over as well as I hoped. As I would reach into the candy bags to take candy from the kids to give to other kids that did not have equal access to candy, the kids got upset! Over and over and over. I reassured them that I understood and gave them pocket Constitutions!”

I see another round of changes have come about Facebook. They’re right, resistance is futile.

Donovan McNabb learns a new rule as Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals duel to a 13-13 tie

The Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals battled it out in the trenches for 75 minutes Sunday, scratching and clawing for every yard. When the dust settled, it ended in an extremely unsatisfying 13-13 tie.

But the real news is that Eagles quarterback and future Hall of Famer* Donovan McNabb was blissfully unaware that ties existed in professional football.

No one was more surprised than McNabb that it ended so soon — 3 hours, 46 minutes after the opening kickoff. The 10th-year quarterback thought it would keep going until someone scored, just like a playoff game.

Wrong.

”I didn’t know that,” McNabb said. ”I’ve never been part of a tie. I never even knew it was in the rule book. I was looking forward to getting the opportunity to get out there and try to drive to win the game.”

Consider for a moment the juxtaposition of one of the league’s premiere players and the face of a franchise not realizing the rules of overtime against a nation of armchair quarterbacks armed to the teeth w ith an intimate knowledge of football rules, history and statistics.

Consider it a small victory for Joe Six Pack. Something to you knew that Donovan didn’t.

Maybe I’m the only one who is shocked by the irony of fans sitting at home knowing the rules and the signal-caller of one of the teams out there waiting for a second overtime to begin.

McNabb can tak e solace in the fact that he isn’t the only one unhappy with splitting the chunky soup of victory equally. Bengals quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick called the outcome “terrible.”

The last tie in the NFL was in 2002, when the Steelers and Falcons fought to a 34-34 stalemate.

It raises the question if ties should exist in professional football. It seems like so much time is spent debating the overtime system — one that so often is decided by who gets the ball first — and so little on whether calling a game a draw is a reasonable thing to do.

So, should the NFL look into changing this, or are you OK with a tie every six years or so?

Sometimes when there is so much doom and gloom in one’s life, or in this case, one country’s life, sometimes the release of humor can not only be the release you need, it’s therapeutic. It makes you stop being so intense and refocuses your mind to the task at hand. Humor has to be a necessary requirement for a candidate to possess. Ronald Reagan had a sense of humor during times when our relationship with the Soviet Union was wearing thin and even after there was an attempted assassination on his life. Presenting yourself as funny when the time calls for it bring the seriousness of the situation down to a level that everyone can all be. George H. Bush didn’t have a sense of humor. We made more fun of him than he was able to do so himself. Bill Clinton always had a smile on his face and a quip up his sleeve (insert the reasons why here). George W. Bush had a sense of humor in the beginning but after the country was attacked physically, economically, and spiritually, no amount of stand-up could save him. Often he was looked at like the guy who always laughed at his same joke while others looked on shaking their heads. He should have poked more fun at himself. Instead of being a jokester, he was the butt of all jokes. Nowadays, you can’t even see him as much unless he’s addressing the country in serious tones.

Now Obama has made attempts to be funny, but it often looks like he’s being made to read the jokes with side notes telling him when to smile and laugh. See what I mean by seeing the clip below.

By contrast, McCain looks like he’s put on his smoking jacket and is about to reflect upon the funnier times that he’s lived through. There’s a lot to be said about life experience giving you the perspective to find the funny angles of life.

Now let’s take a look at where the center of comedy and politics are focused upon – Saturday Night Live. No discussion, just observe delivery of humor.
