EDIT: There are few who care about the environment, there also hopes to be few who profit from it. I was thinking about quoting the source of the article below but then I felt I would get immediately disqualified because of it. But there’s one thing that stands out in all of this for me. You can Google it if you want. Here’s my take: Oil is unpopular, it’s limited, it’s a pollutant; yet, it fuels commerce, produce, and transports medicines, workers, and supplies over large distances. No one wants to waste the time and energy (pun intended) to fund and research cheap alternative fuel sources. Why would big oil want that? It would put them out of business. Why are the environmentalist organizations not keen on suggesting cheap alternative energy? Because they don’t want fuels to go away just yet either! So let’s make up “carbon credits” and just let the rich countries get “taxed” so they can continue burning fuels and let the underdeveloped countries have a chance to use that money. Most importantly, let”s use the UN to rally these countries together and let us handle the cashflow! What a racket! But then again, it is our fault for not being responsible enough on our own to be better stewards of what’s been given to us. Instead, we’re gonna let man’s “worst enemy to the planet” be judge, jury, and sadly, the executioner.

The Multibillion Dollar Carbon Trading System The carbon trading system is a multibillion money-making bonanza for the financial establishment. The stakes are extremely high and the various lobby groups on behalf of Wall Street have already positioned themselves.

According to a recent report, “the carbon market could become double the size of the vast oil market, according to the new breed of City players who trade greenhouse gas emissions through the EU’s emissions trading scheme.

The speed of that growth will depend on whether the Copenhagen summit gives a go-ahead for a low-carbon economy, but Ager says whatever happens schemes such as the ETS will expand around the globe.” (Terry Macalister, Carbon trading could be worth twice that of oil in next decade, The Guardian, 28 November 2009)

The large financial conglomerates, involved in derivative trade, including JP Morgan Chase, Bank America Merrill Lynch, Barclay’s, Citi Bank, Nomura, Société Générale, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs are actively involved in carbon trading.( FACTBOX: Investment banks in carbon trading | Reuters, 14 September 2009)

The legitimacy of the carbon trading system rests on the legitimacy of the Global Warming Consensus, which views CO2 emissions as the single threat to the environment. And for Wall Street the carbon trading system is a convenient and secure money-making safety-net, allowing for the transfer of billions of dollars into the pockets of a handful of conglomerates.

“Every major financial house in New York and London has set up carbon trading operations. Very big numbers are dancing in their heads, and they need them to replace the “wealth” that evaporated in the housing bust. Louis Redshaw, head of environmental markets at Barclays Capital, told the New York Times, “Carbon will be the world’s biggest market over all.” Barclays thinks the current $60 billion carbon market could grow to $1 trillion within a decade. Four years ago Redshaw, a former electricity trader, couldn’t get anyone to talk to him about carbon.” (Mark Braly, The Multibillion Dollar Carbon Trading, RenewableEnergyWorld.com, 5 March 2008)

Visually stunning. My son loved watching this!

Celebrities are now pledging to be Americans and be more responsible?! Weren’t you a part of the problem before anyway?! You’re pledging now to be a “servant” to the president of the United States?! What about when the former president was being ridiculed by the rest of the planet? Oh, but we only hang out with the cool kids on the block. Forget being American, I don’t know that guy. Let me kiss my arms in the name of Barack (smack) Obama (smack) and pledge servitude because I cannot take care of this country and make a difference as an individual. Isn’t that what made this country great long ago?

Personally, I find this video awkward. I was taught to never serve mankind. We’re idiots, untrustworthy and self-serving fools. To believe that we can actually serve man for man’s sake is skewed. I serve a much higher authority that asks me to be selfless and seek out a purpose for my life that far exceeds anything great that I can attain here – even during those moments when I start to believe that the universe should revolve around me!

Are these celebrities for real? Well as more and more try to join us, we’ll see how hard it is to hold them accountable to a pledge as much as non-believers and believers try to hold me to higher standards.

But even as I walk away (not step down) from my soapbox. I know that you don’t have to pledge your servitude to any person. Serve your country because it’s what made this nation great! Serve your fellow man because it is what we’re commanded to do. But above all else, serve Him!

Straight No Chaser

YouTube Internet Celebs make it to the big leagues! I have heard of them just before they released their Christmas album so it is satisfying to watch these guys make the most of their talents. All the best to them and support them by buying their music.

The only reason I am posting this to my blog is simple. Out of all the posts so far my NKOTB post of long ago outnumbered my second top post three times! So yes, this is a shamless attempt to boost the numbers, spike the sauce, impregnate the chads, and acorn the numbers! O-O-O-O-O, just Hangin’ Tough!

Ooh, Whine-a-cuda!

Ooh, Whine-a-cuda!

For those of you that noticed during the end of the RNC, Heart’s Barracuda was being played. This, of course, was in homage to Sarah Palin’s nickname, Barracuda, which she got back in her basketball playing days in high school. The new nickname, “Sarah-cuda” is slowly being passed around and used to reflect her current political stance.

Of course, Ann and Nancy Wilson were not thrilled upon hearing their song being played by the GOP. Earlier they shot off a salvo statement making their stance clear about the use of their music for anything that’s politically motivating as far as the RNC goes.

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

-Ann & Nancy Wilson

Irony?! Yes, you’re right, Wilson sisters, but the irony doesn’t end after the RNC played the song after all towards the end of the convention. It ends with a statement made by co-writer of the song, Roger Fisher.

“In an appearance on a Seattle talk show, song co-writer Roger Fisher announced he was “thrilled” with the RNC’s use of the song, because it both resulted in royalties for the band and gave them an opportunity to publicly point out that he, the Wilson sisters, and fellow bandmate Michael DeRosier were all staunch supporters of Barack Obama.”

So much for rock bands fighting against the system. I mean despite your dad serving his country in the Marine Corps, you went along with your draft dodging band members to start your group (ironically called, “Army” before you finally made up your minds to call it “Heart”) and become honorary Canadians until the dust settled and U.S. President Jimmy Carter granted amnesty to those who avoided their duty to country. By the way, America called, they said, “Your welcome and we’re still buying your music because despite your political opinions, we like it.”

Bottom line. You left this country when it needed you, came back when it convenienced you, and milked the corporations that milked you in return (ooh, barracuda!), and when you couldn’t cut it as a rock band, you took advantage of the American public by writing cheesy pop songs and getting fools to buy (and your welcome because I bought “Bad Animals” when it came out!) And despite all that, you get politically antsy when this country offers to pay you royalties to play your music at their functions? Even your other band member was thankful that he was getting paid! Can you not show any appreciation for this country? At least Johnny Depp put his money where his mouth is and lives in France. Where are you residing?

You’re absolutely right! Sarah Palin has nothing in common with you.

“What about love? Don’t you want someone to care about you? You might need it someday.”

And speaking of irony, here’s Heart performing Barracuda live. Enjoy!

OMG! The NKOTB are BACK!

When I saw on the Today show (click on image above to see video) that Jordan Knight, Danny Wood, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Jonathan Knight were reuniting as The New Kids on the Block, I shuddered silently to myself as flashbacks of visiting my cousin in the Bronx began to surface. Wallpapered between the Kirk Cameron posters were The New Kids in every imaginable pose that invited the giggles and doe eyed admirations from many a teenager and tweener from sea to shining sea. Displaying proudly and ‘hanging tough’ in her bookcase were the NKOTB six inch life size replicas still in their boxes for fear of desecrating the sanctity of its portable cardboard and plastic temple.

By the door, my foot was tempted to “accidentally” knock over her official NKOTB Lunchbox with one foot and her pile of Tiger Beat magazines with the other but I decided against it. Why? Because I know she’d confiscate my Star Wars Thermos, but that’s another story for another day.

As I awake myself from the blank stare I had on my face, my wife looks at me and asks me if I forgot something important?”No,” I answered back, “but I am going to give my cousin a call and see if she’s dug out her old NKOTB memorabilia to be sold on eBay .”

Deep in the province of Anhui, China, there is a residence just begging to be replicated in Las Vegas. There is not much information available about this home but as you can see in the opposite view of the home, all keys are there for your viewing pleasure! In another part of Anhui, local businesses are sensing a trend in the need for large furniture.

The Hallelujah Chorus – Redux

Putting a little twist in the wrist!

This world changes so much that time honored traditions such as the Hallelujah Chorus need to be revamped for our self-indulging generation. Although I still love and cherish the original (I sing it every year at Christmas), I understand that looking at things slightly askew may actually help us gain some perspective and appreciation. That is, if you seek and desire it for the right reasons. I often wonder how many people still honor and respect things that are older than us. Things that have withstood harsh weathering this life tends to bring. Religion, History, Tradition, War Veterans, Classical Musicians, your grandmothers and grandfathers… you get the idea.

What’s going to happen once you get as old as the hills? Will you be wishing for those days when people had respect for the older generation? Will you wonder if those things you cherished the most as a kid will be honored by your grand children? It’s the circle of life, folks! Or perhaps a case of my karma running over your dogma?
